Angelique Sanchez, freshman at Michigan State University, was no different from any other freshman while explaining the challenges she has encountered so far. “The key issues I struggle with currently is time management and dealing with my math class. In high school I was used to always completing my work during class compared to now in college, all my work is done outside the class room, which forces me to manage my time,” said Sanchez. There are resources for freshman all around them to help with their adjustment. One resource can even be a resident assistant seeing as they were a freshman at one point in their lives. Ashley Lyles, junior at Michigan State University, is all for helping her residents have a easy adjustment. One way she does this is by giving them some well needed advice such as, “I would come into college with a plan. I have always been the organized type when it came to my career goals. So, I would suggest having an idea of what you want to do with you career, other than that you will probably end up wasting money. I would suggest going to a community college before a major university if you don’t have your career goals mapped out. For those freshmen that have career goals, I would recommend finding internships each summer, cultivating relationships with professors (it will help with letters of recommendation) and staying on top of classes. Ultimately, enjoy your undergraduate experience but don’t forget why you’re here,” said Ashley.
